Process Explanation

Understanding Coil Slitting

Coil slitting is the process of longitudinally cutting wide master coils into narrower, more manageable widths whilst maintaining the coil form. This process allows manufacturers to purchase material in exactly the widths they require rather than having to handle full-width coils and cut material themselves.

Benefits of Professional Slitting:

Reduced Material Waste

Purchasing precisely slit widths eliminates the waste associated with cutting wider material to size. This reduces both material costs and disposal expenses.

Improved Handling Efficiency

Narrower coils are easier to transport, store, and load into production equipment. This reduces handling time and the risk of material damage.

Enhanced Production Efficiency

Pre-slit material feeds directly into pressing, rolling, or forming equipment without requiring upstream cutting operations, streamlining your production process.

Better Material Utilisation

Optimised coil widths allow more efficient nesting of components, reducing offcuts and improving material yield in your operations.

Reduced Capital Investment

By outsourcing slitting, you avoid the capital cost of slitting equipment and the ongoing maintenance, operator training, and facility space requirements.

Better Material Utilisation

Professional slitting delivers consistent edge quality and width tolerances that are difficult to achieve with manual or makeshift cutting methods.

Technical Capabilities

Equipment & Capacity

Our facility houses two precision slitting lines, each equipped with modern tooling and control systems. This dual-line capability provides flexibility, redundancy, and the capacity to handle diverse requirements efficiently.

Maximum Coil Weight: 5 tonnes

Our handling equipment and line capacity accommodate coils up to 5 tonnes, covering the vast majority of commercial coil sizes. Specialised lifting equipment ensures safe material handling whilst protecting surfaces from damage.

Width Range: 10mm to 650mm

We slit materials from as narrow as 10mm (suitable for small brackets, strips, and specialised components) up to 650mm (accommodating wide panels, ducting
materials, and structural elements). Most common industrial requirements fall comfortably within this range.

Material Thickness: 0.4mm to 3.5mm

From thin gauge materials for pressing operations through to heavier sections for structural applications, our lines handle the full thickness spectrum commonly used in mild steel manufacturing.

Multiple Widths from Single Coils

When your production requires several different widths, we can slit multiple strips from a single master coil in one pass. This efficiency can reduce costs and lead times compared to processing separate coils.

Edge Quality

Our precision tooling delivers clean, straight edges with minimal burr. Edge quality directly affects how material performs in downstream operations, and we maintain strict standards to ensure optimal results.

Width Tolerances

Consistent width tolerances are critical for automated production processes. Our equipment maintains tight tolerances, and we verify measurements throughout processing to ensure specifications are met.
Materials

Materials We Specialise In

Coil slitting is the process of longitudinally cutting wide master coils into narrower, more manageable widths whilst maintaining the coil form.

Cold Reduced (CR) Steel

Cold reduced materials offer superior surface finish, tighter thickness tolerances, and improved mechanical properties compared to hot rolled alternatives. We regularly
process CR materials from 0.4mm to 3.0mm thickness for pressing operations, precision stamping, and applications requiring excellent flatness.

Tight Tolrence

Hot Rolled (HR) Steel

Hot rolled steel provides cost-effective material for structural applications and general manufacturing. We process both standard HR finish and HR Pickled & Oiled (HR P&O) materials, with the latter offering enhanced surface condition and corrosion resistance.
0.4mm-0.3mm thickness

Tight Tolrence

Galvanised Steel

Zinc coating provides excellent corrosion protection for outdoor applications, exposed components, and long-term durability requirements. We process galvanised materials whilst protecting the coating integrity, ensuring the full benefit of corrosion protection is maintained.

Zintec Steel

Electro-galvanised Zintec offers a smooth, clean surface ideal for paint adhesion and corrosion protection in visible components. Popular in pressing operations, Zintec combines good formability with protective coating and an attractive finish.

Note:

We specialise exclusively in mild steel and do not currently process carbon steel or stainless steel materials.
Recoiling

Advanced Recoiling Facility

Our dedicated recoiling facility provides additional processing capabilities beyond standard slitting operations. Recoiling allows us to adjust coil dimensions, consolidate materials, or prepare coils for specific equipment requirements.

Maximum Recoil Diameter

1800mm

Our recoiling equipment can produce coils up to 1800mm overall diameter, accommodating large production runs and minimising coil changes in your operations.

Inside Diameter Options

406mm / 457mm / 508mm

We process and recoil materials with three common inside diameters to match your equipment specifications.

Applications for Recoiling:

  • Consolidating partial coils into full-size coils to reduce handling
  • Adjusting outside diameter to match customer requirements
  • Changing inside diameter to suit specific equipment
  • Rewinding materials with improved tension control
  • Correcting coil defects such as telescoping
